Online Sketchbook Prompt Eight

Philip Lepage
How does your eye move around this composition? What do you see first? What do you see last? Is this photograph symbolic? Why or why not?

My eye first moves to the orange shoes of the "walker". The last thing that i see is the ground and the background. My eyes are drawn to the colors of this photo, and actually at first i thought this was one of those photos made on photoshop, where the majority of the photo is black and white, and then only a specific portion or the main part of the picture is in color, to emphasize its importance. but then i realized it was a full color shot, and the only reason i thought it was a black and white photo was because of the blacks, greys and whites in the ground and the bike tire, etc, and then the bright colors of the subject matter stick out like a sore thumb.

My eyes of course first see the person because their clothing is in color and the rest of the image is in black and white. I feel that maybe the color changes symbolize a woman coming back to her "old neighborhood" where she grew up. Black and white usually reminds me of the past, so she could have come back to see it as she is in color-the present.

The midground with the walking person stands out the most due to the color saturation compared to the rest of the image. Unlike most images, the foreground is what stands out the least and is what my eye catches last. Coming back to the choices of color vs. black and white in the same photograph arouse symbolic meaning.

first, my eye is looking at the shoes of the subject, then i see her dress and i see her surroundings; of like a street with a bike "parked." because the image is so focused, its hard to see what the real focus is, is it the shoes? where the person is going? his/her surroundings? but, i guess what i think of when i see this is like downtown china, because of the way the subject is dressed, as well as her footwear.

It moves around quite a bit because I want to see if I am not seeing anything. The first thing that my eyes are drawn to are the feet of the woman. the last thing that I was not attracted to in the first place was the tiny, purple flower located behind the wheel. Due to the fact that you can't see the person or barely notice the flower, the symbolic meaning to me is that beauty is something not to be hidden.

Im not sure why, but my eyes immediately went to the bottom of her shoe. This is weird because i would think my eyes would be attracted to her dress because its so bright. The colors of the womans outfit may symbolize how the woman is feeling or tell us about her personality. My eyes saw the bike wheel last, its just kind of off to the side and not really relevant to the photo.

When I look at this image the first thing my eye goes to is the bottom on the shoes by the heel. The last thing I see is the right side of the image, like the bike and sidewalk. To me it looks like this person has been to a lot of places because the bottom of the shoe is pretty dirty looking.

I have to be honest, to me this picture is not symbolic in any sense. But, when asked where my eyes tend to look first and where they tend to look that is an easy one to answer. The feet and shoes catch my eyes first then the second in most focus which is the bike wheel and then the ground/ street because it is just there. Other than that, this is one of those images that is hard to say anything about.

The first aspect of the photo I see is the "walker's"(I think it's a girl) shoes. They appear to be the main focus of the image and could symbolize the "walker" leaving her past or walking toward her future.

this photo is quite interesting, the person walking pops out like crazy, it seems like almost everything else is non colored besides the person walking, this makes that erson stand out completely

my eyes go from the orange shoes and then up towards the rest of the outfit. Then i go to the bike wheel. And then i start thinking about her environment and what she's walking on.

I think this photograph is symblolic in the way of saying that using your own transportation that doesnt require the use of fuel is better. That it IS possible. It kind of reminds me of china and a foreign aspect of symbolism but i cant really support that idea.ha.

My eye first see or spots the person. It then travels to the ground and then to the bike that is next to the walker. The symbolism of this photograph is the fact that the walker was walking into her old neighborhood. She probably grew up in a not very good neighborhood and she was remincing about her past. I think this because of the way the photo is. Majority of the photo is in black and white while only the woman is in color but that's only because of the street and the bike tire. It also could be that the subject matter is more important than that of her surroundings thus making the photographer to take this type of picture to premote that she's the important subject matter and her surroundings are lesser than she is.

I of course focused on the dress first since it stands out so much between the rest of the image, its very colorful.
The image symbolizes Asia to me. That kind of dress and shoes as well as the bicycle remind me of Asians you see in movies and stuff.

My eyes first focus on the red dress or rain coat or whatever, mainly because it's the most colorful object that covers half the photograph. Then after the yellow shoes, my eyes focus towards the blank blurry background that the man/woman is walking towards. This photograph could be symbolic, but im not sure. It bores me, because I see no point in this photo at all. Just a person walking with a bad sence of style.

When i first lok at this picture my eyes sees the bright yellow shoes. Then it sees the red dress. The last thing i noticed was the bike wheel. This photo reminds me of my mom because she likes oriental things.
