Online Sketchbook Prompt Twenty

Jerry BurchfieldUnderstory, Lumen Prints of Florida Flora

“Burchfield has composed a body of work that transcends utilitarian concerns to explore a mysterious creative arena where chance and skill collaborate. From the earliest photographic experiments with light-sensitive materials to modernist fascination with the subconscious to current conceptual practice, Burchfield’s lumen prints suggest the gamut of the history of photography.”—Thomas McGovern

After looking at the work of Jerry Burchfield and the description of his practice, describe his purpose in creation. What is your response to his imagery? How do you think it was created? Do you find it artistically proactive? Why or why not?

His purpose is to capture illuminating objects that deal with light changes. I think this image is a positive one. bright colors express happiness, therefore I am happy when i look at this image.i think it was created by a scanner with light sensative paper. It somewhat reminds me of an x-ray. It does not seem that proactive in a sense of proving a point or reach a goal. It doesn't seem to have much meaning.

This artist's purpose is to take pictures of objects that have weird color balances and changes. He chose a flower in this one. With a big help from photoshop, this artist brought out all the oranges, and elaborated them. It's really cool. It's not really a proactive photo either. It's kind of just a recreational shot.

The artist's purpose is to photograph bright, differently colored objects. I like the picture, it's bright and makes me happy. He might have made it using photoshop. It's not really proactive because there doesn't seem to be any purpose to it.
