Priya Kambli has been through a very interesting and exciting transition in her life. Growing up in India for eighteen years and then moving to America can be both difficult and also an amazing experience. One she got here she did something with her life by going to college and getting an education for her passion and skill for photography. Her photos describe her as a human being with both Indian and American backgrounds that are filled with many her life experiences. She shows her Indian culture interacting with her American lifestyle.
The image of my choice is titled: Kavi. When I see this image I think of all the people that I have known that has broken a limb and has had a cast to help it heal. I myself, had broken my wrist and chose a hot pink cast to wear around everywhere I went. My eyes focus on the blue cast but I see the boy at the same time. I then notice the little boy and his cute face. As I study the picture, I try to determine the mood that the boy is in. I choose to think that the boy is curious. The last thing I notice is the makeshift crown on the far right. It looks like it might be a symbol that represents the young boy and his imagination. This young lad must be Kambli’s son because he is many of the photographs and in her Biography; she explains how much of a joy it was to have him.
Kambli’s work is very beautiful. It is positive and bright, so it gives off a pleasant mood to whoever may be observing it.

Priya Kambli is a very interesting artist to say the least. The image I chose is called Muma and Me (Henna). It is quite an odd image, because it has a few things going on, clearly photomontage, and it makes me wonder what she is trying to say with her work. The image shows a lady, (possibly her or her "muma") cupping her hands slightly and placing them side to side, palms facing the camera. The hands has something on them, which looks like blood, but I am going to assume it's henna. I'm not even familiar with henna, so I'm not going to judge it. This artist looks as if she likes to experiment with art and take risks on her work. It's definitely daring to do so, since it is her profession, but it looks really interesting. It seems to me like she is very cultural based. She takes passion in her culture and shows it in her work. It makes me wonder if people of her culture would look at my work like that. Her style is different, but shows alot about her. In the middle of the image, it looks like there is a pattern of some kind, maybe from a carpet? I'm not sure exactly why it is there, maybe to add a cultural dividing line dividing her two images, with a twist of her culture. In the bottom of the image there is who I think is Muma, holding what looks like a bird cage, but Priya photomontaged her muma, put her in there twice, but flipped her to have them facing each other. It's quite a weird concept, and I've never seen a photomontaged image look like that before. I guess you can say that I would call myself a fan of her work. It doesn't strike me as one of my favorites, but there is definitely something about it that stands out as very cultural and well put together.

Inspiration is certainly never insufficient for Priya Kambli, it seems to be beside her always. Her motivation comes from her past and the effects it has had on her life, and the current issues from that experience.

Kambli seems to have had a fairly easy shift to a new world. When she migrated to the U.S. from India she jumped right into an artistic education and pursued an artistic career as a photographer. The past experiences in her life must have a major impact on her motives as an artists, as they are directly reflected in her imagery.

Kambli’s body of work is very interesting. Her imagery conveys a combination of photographic styles. It is a mixture of a more contemporary style, with a subtle and minute hint of a more historical style. One photograph titled “Muma (Blue Dibiya)” makes an impact on me. I am fond of the composition of each individual photograph as well as the photographs put together. This image is a perfect example that proves the mixture of photographic styles that expand throughout all her work. The middle image could be a personal effect that holds some strong sentimental value to the person seen in the photograph next to this one, perhaps from immigration or emigration.

At first glance, I was not completely interested in Kambli’s body of work. However, taking a closer look and keeping in mind the inspiration behind each image, I grew more attached to her work.

As she says in her bio, she came to the states with her whole life in a 20 pund suitcase. clearly she doesnt have much. but, in her imagery it seems a bit unusual. all her pictures are really random. they are pretty cool though, you see a lot of indian culture in her picutres and that is really nice.
