When I look at the work of Stephen Wilkes, I am taken by surprise. The color and clarity of his photography is amazing. I could not stop viewing each and every piece. Much of his work seems to represent the beauty that can come from disasters, or even abandonment. His portraits are true and positive. There are many happy people in his work, very colorful as well. Some of his images appear to tell a story. These stories take place in all different parts of the world. Knowing that many photographers have migrated to New Orleans at least once may provide something to expect before taking a look at Wilkes’ work of Katrina. At first, I found the series a tad bit generic but as I moved on, his work seemed to have it’s own meaning. The details really put the pieces together.
