The image I chose is titled: Circo Franzatti, Mexico City, Mexico, 1997 this image was in the series, Mexican circus. What stood out to me the most was the expression and makeup on the clown’s face. I have never been a fan of clowns so usually pictures of things that either frighten me or make me feel slightly uneasy are the ones I look at the longest. After getting over the face, my eyes wonder down to the clown’s lap. He is holding what looks like a real gun. Where there is a gun, there is something that the gun is pointing at. I follow the barrel of the gun to the unhappy child sitting next to him. This is such a controversial image. There is a freaky looking clown grasping a child in one hand and a gun in the other. The gun is even pointing at the young child. This image activates so many parts of my mind. At first, I did not know what to think of the picture. I simply just gazed at it for a while. Studying the details to try and figure out why the image shows such a frightening and awkward situation. I notice that the clown’s hat says “captain America” on it. I came up with the conclusion that it is something against America. I cannot figure out what it is trying to portray against America. I cannot help but assume that this clown is that little girl’s uncle. I want to know why she looks so unhappy. I also would like to know more about that gun. The idea I have of how this picture was taken seems fairly realistic. The man (clown) was talking with his young niece when the photographer appeared and asked to take their picture. The clown said, “sure!” (In Spanish) and grabbed his niece as they proceeded to sit on the bench. For some reason the clown had a gun, and thought it would be funny to pint it at the girl with a crazed look on his face. I truly wonder what the photographer thought after the picture was taken.
