Take a look at the work of famous painter Chuck Close via his website: http://www.chuckclose.coe.uh.edu/life/index.html
Choose one of his pieces to produce a formal analysis critique. Also consider the question, how does his work relate to photography?

The image i chose to do my formal analysis on was "Lyle (2000)". in this image there is a man. it is just a bust. i like this picture the most because of all the colors. it is beautifully done. when i see this image, the first thing i see is all the colors and how they go so well together.
I think his work relates to phtography because, it is basically a photo of a man, in his exact pose.
I chose the image "John". It's an odd picture and i'm not quite sure what he was thinking while creating this piece. These are just portraits, which don't excite me in the least bit. I can't say that this guy's a failure, because his work is very well done. I'm just not into it. The colors are pretty interesting, because altogether it just looks really neat. But overall the image is boring and i would not pay to own this.
His work relates to photography because it's portaits. Nothing extraordinary, just a portrait. So i guess it relates to photography in some way.

The image I chose was Emma/woodcut. I chose this image because of the way it stood out to me. The vibrant colors attracted me to this piece. To me, it looks like an image that was photo shopped, but after zooming in, I realize how it was done. With those small colored areas it created such a work of art. I first notice the child’s eyes because of how real they look. Then I move to the mouth and the face to the striped clothing. It truly amazes me how this piece was completed. To me his work appears to be photography. Also, a photographic image can be created to look exactly like his artwork.
