Sketchbook Twenty-Three

After viewing the work of photographer Priya Kambli, what are your reactions to her imagery? What stories do they tell you as the viewer? In what ways do these images fall into the domain of contemporary photography? In what ways do these images fall into the domain of historical photography?

My initial reactions would be that they are interesting pictures. I don't really get what point she's trying to get across, but it's still a pretty cool concept. These pictures tell some sort of tale, but again, I don't really understand it. Maybe it's just me not thinking outside of the box, but it's kind of an odd tale. They fall into contemporary photography because they are more modern images, but they have the more elegant, historic look to it. So they fit into both comtemporary and historical photography. It's just the subject matter that looks old, but the whole photography part looks pretty modern. Overall, I guess you can say I'm somewhat interested.

I have seen the work of Priya Kambli before and I find her imagery very soothing. Her work seems so light and airy which to me is a good thing. I love the way she incorporates sunshine in each of her pictures. The story she tells is about her ancestry. I can see childhood to adulthood through her photography. Her heritage is also explained through her art. The simplicity of her work lets it fall into contemporary. She somewhat compares an old photograph to a modern one which shows the change in cultures. It puts the older image in a new era.
